The value of a balanced lifestyle and the power of creative thinking were exhibited by participants in such ways as paintings, photography and video.In addition to the many exhibits decorating the hospital’s main lobby, this year’s event featured live entertainment and a special “Meet the Artist” segment.Special Events Coordinator Jacqueline Ashby created a photo display called “What the Difference a Year Makes.” “I was inspired to create the collage by the birth of my beautiful daughter, Amira Louise Ashby. As an amateur photographer I wanted to document my journey from pregnancy to birth,” said Ashby, who coordinated the annual On My Own Time event as well.Christopher French, MD, from the Department of Pathology painted a portrait titled, “Dr. Felix Brown” and said he is inspired by the movement and rhythm of painting. “Art is an essential part of my life; without it I am lost. On the other hand, balance is critical and without science and medicine, I am also lost,” said French.Sandra Gould, MA, MSM from the Partners Office for Women’s Careers at BWH displayed her experience with making a “wood strip kayak” in a photo collage. “I always wanted to make something beautiful with wood. I like to kayak, and this seems to be a great way to satisfy the urge,” said Gould.“This event is successful and fresh each year because of the participation by various employees at all levels in the institution and the variety/creativity of the artwork showcased,” added Ashby.
